Twitter, What should I use?
Recently I decided that I was bored with my Twitter client. I have been using twitux at the recomendation of DedRyzing. Twitux is a great client. The desktop sizing was perfect for what I wanted. Easy to see all the tweets that I follow. I was a little displeased with the way that you send tweets. You have no readily available tweet dialog. You must use a keyboard shortcut of ^n to open the tweet dialog, or select it from the tool menu. (which is something I hate to do. keyboard shortcuts FTW!!) I would much rather have the tweet box readily available at all times. Just click and tweet. Twitux works just fine though.

Again, at recommenation of DedRyzing; I tried Mitter. The worst part about trying mitter was that it wasn’t in the Gentoo repos. I was quite suprised. So I tried it on Arch. pacman -S mitter; no problem. Mitter has a similar interface to twitux; a single column of tweets visible at a glance. Always updating from yours and those that you follow. I liked the fact that mitter has a tweet dialog visible and accessible without having to make extra moves to get to it. It’s just there at the bottom, waiting for your tweets.
Both of the aforementioned Twitter clients for Linux take on your chosen themes appearance. Both are written in GTK, which is my preference. I seem to avoid QT as KDE seems too Windows like for me; but I digress. Either of these are great twitter clients are recommendable. Of the two, I’d have to say; go with mitter for the shear fact that tweeting is effortless.

And, I have been seeing tweetdeck as the source of some tweets and in the text of some also so I found some information about getting adobe Air installed on Linux. The first one I read was for Arch. Naturally, I dove right in. I did not yet get it to work and would like to say fuck you, I mean, thank you to adobe for making your products so Linux friendly. I did want to try tweetdeck though so I put it on the Mac. I have to say that tweetdeck has what I like in a Twitter client. Three viewable columns by defaullt. Tweets, Replies and DMs all viewable at the same time. The tweet box to type in is there at all times. And there are many other customizable features that I have yet to dive into.
So, as it stands, I am using 2 clients. tweetdeck on the Mac; until I get it working in Linux and mitter in Linux. Mitter just because I choose not to be without a Linux form of tweeting. Oh, and I just found twirssi which is a twitter client that works inside Irssi. You must know what I think of Irssi. It’s only the best Linux IRC client in existance but, I digress again. When I get the install of twirrsi finished and use it a little I will let you know what I think.
