Selling out on twitter
More and more companies are paying people to tweet the products or services that they provide. Imagine getting payed for the time that you spend using twitter. Companies are so desperate to reach the multitudes that use the social micro-blog service that they will now pay you to tweet. Yes, it is possible for a person to make a buck or two from tweeting.
A company named Izea, which made it’s name by connecting bloggers with companies that are willing to pay them to plug their products, has now stepped into the realm of micro-blogging. The world of twittter. It is not bad enough to get those annoying twitter-bots following you but, now you could be inundated by ads from real people that you might be following. Of course there is always the option of the “UN-FOLLOW”. The CEO of Izea states that more than 10,000 people have all ready signed up to send “sponsored tweets”.
This so takes away from the value of twitter. All though I do send out tweets telling people about my recent blog posts or a post that was written by a friend of mine, those have some legitimate value. At least there is something there that is worth taking a look at. These “sponsored tweets” are really nothing more than an ad placed in the form of a tweet.
Part of the payment equation the ad networks are planning to use is based on the number of followers that a person has. I don’t know about you but, I see a persons following going down rapidly as soon as they start sending out ads. I do not want to think of the disappointment that my few followers would suffer from seeing my twitter become sold out to some advertising company. It’s “Twitter Blasphemy” some have said when they thought of this and I agree.
